Week 1

Waiting for rental van
After a three hour flight delay, a long hold up in picking up our rental van and upon seeing our home for the next few weeks in San Francisco, CA, we have to admit that we did not have grateful hearts. However, when we woke up the next morning with new eyes, we could see how the Lord strategically placed us in this location and how he provided us with on site crock-pot, grills, microwaves, coffee pots, toasters, large fridge, and even a cooler for our packed lunches. For those that have been praying for us, know that this is an answer to prayer. City View Church is like that diamond in the rough, and we are so thankful to the Lord for how He has provided and blessed with this jewel.

City View Church follows its name as we have a perfect view of San Franscico. We can literally pray over the city and ask you to continue to pray with us as the hearts of the people are very hard. It is definitely a different crowd here to the East Coast and probably something that we will begin to see in our area a few years from now as people continue to harden their hearts to God. Some have mocked, some have cursed, and some have uncontrollably laughed at us, but in saying that God has given us opportunities to plant seeds. We have been preaching and doing the Set Free skit at Market and Powell Street, the heart of San Francisco, where you go to jump on the old trolley ride. We have had some good conversations and have even started to form relationships. Please pray for Derrick who is a part of security at Market and Powell. He is a Muslim, but has had many questions and seems to be genuinely listening to what we have to say.

We have also preached the Gospel at the Fisherman's Wharf right next to Pier 39, and Delores Park.

City View, is a treasure to us in that we are in a nicer part of San Fran, but just a few blocks away there is a government housing project called Potero Hills. We have started a kids club in this area and are very much welcomed by both the parents and kids. Even the adults have been hanging out to listen to the programs. The kids just love the teens; some of which we have to pry them off in order to leave. Most of these kids probably do not get much love and therefore are taking all they can get. Fact, yesterday we found out that Potrero Hills is where O. J. Simpson grew up.

The Mission Possible team is such a great team, and have been jumping in with both feet to do what they are told and the tasks at hand. We have already formed a great routine for cooking with our crock pots and been on wild adventures to the grocery store shopping for healthy foods for 5 days and filling 4 grocery carts to the top! Nothing we do is small and it was announced that we are the Dougger family!

Next week we are going to continue our ministry at Potrero Hills while also training some churches in the area to do the same. Thank you so much for your prayers and support. We feel your prayers and already see God answering our prayers and at work in and through us.

Commissioning & Flight to SanFrancisco

Last Sunday, both MP1 and MP2 were commissioned by Forcey to go on our trips and share the good news of the Gospel and how Jesus has changed our lives for good with others. Pastor Chris prayed over both teams and challenged us with 4 verses - Acts 4:13 (be bold and show them that you've been with Jesus), Phil. 2:5-8 (be a humble servant like Jesus), John 15:5-8 (remain in Christ), and Col. 1:9-14 (prayer is important and this passage has a good prayer to pray. I have been at a family reunion in Minnesota for the past week, so I'm flying out of Chicago while the rest of the team is flying out of Baltimore. As I was writing this post this morning, Carmi called to say their flight has been delayed an hour and a half. All week my self-challenge has been to live like Col. 3:23 says, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for God, not for man". I know there's a plan here with everything that happens. The real question is, "Am I doing everything to glorify God?" We appreciate your prayers! To God be the glory.

Car Wash & Training

Hard at work on the first car
Yesterday, we washed countless cars, raised almost $1,000 in support, and had an epic water battle. We worked together as a team as well as with the MP1 team to get this task done. The teens were great servants and were pretty thorough in their work. I was impressed to see the pride that they took in their work. They were truly living Colossians 3:23, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for man." We even had one gentleman who brought 2 other cars back after he saw the great job that we did on his first car. Despite all the sunburned feet, it was a pretty great morning.

Micah & Jason (MP1) tackled Sam to the ground and dumped water on him
This afternoon, we had our 2nd to last MP meeting with MP1 before we head out to our respective locations. They finished learning the puppet skits & songs. (What troopers! It's tough to hold your arm in the air while moving a puppets mouth for over an hour. I know - I only did it for 2 songs and was reminded of the forearm muscles that I developed on my MP2 & MP3 from doing puppets.) They have progressed so much since they first picked up a puppet at the beginning of training in April!

We also practiced/perfected our wordless drama, "Set Free", as well as our fun skit, "Doctor, Doctor". This group has a pretty funny "Doctor, Doctor" already; I'm looking forward to seeing how much funnier it will get. Carmiña and I have been praying for our team's "Set Free" drama and how we could help them take it to the next level. I am excited to say that today, they got it! They have made it their own and I can see their personalities coming through in their drama! I'm pretty excited for them! Way to go, team!

We ended the meeting with sketchboard practice. Some of us (me) haven't done a real sketchboard message since 2005 and were pretty nervous about doing one in front of the teens. By the grace of God, I wasn't as rusty as I thought. We spent about 2 hours practicing painting up and giving our messages to our teammates. While we were waiting to paint up our messages, I was role playing one-on-one conversations with the teens. Going to public high school, I remember many questions that my friends would ask me. I then turned those questions around and asked my team. Just like Crazy Love and Christian Belief, the teens are thinking more and more about what they believe and why. What a blessing for them to discover this while they're young!

I want to end with the Scripture that Paul opened our meeting with - Hebrews 12:1-3 "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart." The guys on my MP3 team in 2005 called this "shrugging off and transcending". That is my prayer for our team tonight - that they would throw off everything that is entangling them and run with perseverance with their eyes fixed on Jesus.

Good night and God bless!

Yard Sale & More

June... 8... How is it June 8? We leave for San Francisco in 17 days!!!

The process for MP2 began last August. (Yes, we were planning for San Francisco even then.) Since then, so much has happened:
  • Paul & Carmiña were chosen to lead the trip (YAY!)
  • Kelly applied and was accepted to be a leader-in-training (Double Yay!)
  • The Team applied and were accepted (Triple Yay!)
  • Paul has used his contacts to find places to work and stay in San Fran, as well as people to work with
  • Had a great yard sale where we raised almost $2,000 for our trip
  • We have practiced & tweaked our wordless drama, "Set Free", trying to make it our own
  • We have learned almost all of our puppet skits
  • We have begun learning new sketchboard messages
  • Taken multiple team photos (and perfected "photo bombing" in one of them)
  • We have grown closer as a team to each other and already learned more about our relationships with God
Getting set up - Adam got to drive the trailer up to the top parking lot with Jianna & Sarah (MP1)
Getting set up - Tim, Jianna, Sarah (MP1), & Ryan (MP1) unload a couch under the watchful eyes of Mr. Sam, Mr. John, and Julie
Customers at the yard sale
Getting creative about advertising for the Yard Sale - jumping and spinning helps (Micah - in the chair, Matt - spinning, Ryan (MP1) - jumping, and Stephen (MP1) - supervising)

One of our tasks for the past few months was to read the book Crazy Love. It was fantastic! It really makes you stop and think about your relationship with God and how awesome and amazing he is. If we really love Him like we're supposed to, then we should be practicing the presence of God and living all the time as if He was standing with us (since He is) and not forgetting that He is the Most High, Creator of everything and deserves to be worshiped as such.

We are currently reading another book Christian Beliefs: Twenty Basics Every Christian Should Know which explains doctrine that every Christian should know and be able to share.

As a former member of MP myself (2003-2006), I am so excited to be working with this group this summer. It has been a joy already seeing these teens be stretched in their thinking of God. They are ready to step out for Him this summer and I am praying that they will see God work mightily, just like I did on MP.

Please join us in prayer as the countdown has begun until take-off:
  • As always, for open doors for the Gospel (even in our daily lives here before we leave)
  • Team unity
  • Safety
  • Last minute preparations
  • That life outside of MP would not be so hectic as to cause us stress while on the trip or before
  • Finally, that the things we all learn this summer will be brought back with us to "everyday life" and be implemented in what all that we do

Thank you all so much for your prayers and support!!

Meet the Team

Mission Possible is a teen organization from Forcey Bible Church that introduces teens to ways they can share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others. There have been many Mission Possible-ites who have gone on to become missionaries full-time, but our goal is that all teens who go on MP will be missionaries wherever they are - teaching, being a doctor, working with computers, etc. We are all commanded to share the Gospel (Matthew 28:16-20) and MP aims to give teens tools to do so.

MP is broken into 3 stages, just like the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20) - local, national, and international. This year our MP2 team is getting the opportunity to travel to San Francisco, CA for 5 weeks and then to Ocean City, MD for the 6th week with MP1. Our team is lead by Paul and Carmiña, who have been leading MP teams for over 10 years. Paul has been an evangelist with Open Air Campaigners for about 20 years with Carmiña by his side for over half the time. One of their former team members, Kelly, has come back to be a leader-in-training this summer to learn what it takes to lead MP. Our team has 3 young ladies (Shauna, Julie, and Jianna) and 5 young gentlemen (Micah, Adam, Matt, Tim, & Sam) who are as fired up about this trip as their leaders.

We are all looking forward to a fruitful summer and hope you will join us in prayer for our time on Mission Possible. Thanks for you support!
